New (Volunteer) Trustees

London Insight Meditation (LIM) is seeking to appoint two new trustees to our board. LIM runs a yearly series of about 30 events, primarily day retreats and courses, which support understanding and meditation practice within the Insight (vipassana) tradition. Since Covid-19 we have offered our events online and plan to continue to offer a mixture of in person and online events.

Key Responsibilities

As a trustee, you will join the existing board members in setting LIM’s strategic direction, providing effective leadership and governance and ensuring that LIM complies with its obligations as a charity. You will work in partnership with a strong team (of currently three trustees), a director and a paid events coordinator to achieve LIM’s vision, goals and strategy.

The Charity Commission website has useful information and guidance about the role of trustees in running a charity.

Becoming a charitable trustee provides an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience and transferable skills. Although the role is unpaid, it is always interesting and very rewarding.

Skills and Qualities

We are interested in candidates with:

  • a high level of commitment and integrity
  • an ability to think strategically and problem-solve
  • sound judgment and an ability to work as part of a team.

You should be committed to the values articulated in the Dharma teachings and the vision and goals of LIM.

We estimate the time requirement to comprise attendance at quarterly two hour trustee meetings and quarterly three hour management team meetings.  All trustees engage in some operational work within their area of expertise or interest, but the extent of this is negotiable. Trustee and management meetings are currently being held online using Zoom.

Although not essential, we are particularly interested in applicants with:

  • legal expertise
  • charity or commercial (especially events management) experience
  • marketing expertise

We are very keen to increase the diversity of the trustee group. We are truly committed to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and we actively welcome applications from individuals across the diverse communities we aspire to serve.

Application

Application is by CV and covering letter, outlining the knowledge and skills you would bring to the position of trustee, as well as your motivations for applying and a description of your own Buddhist or mindfulness practice (if you have one). The closing date for written applications is 17th December 2021.  Please email them to chair@londoninsight.org. Following receipt of written applications, we will arrange interviews with successful candidates.

With best wishes

The LIM Trustees
