Steve Annett (1950 - 2019)
We are very sad to announce the death of one of our trustees, Steve Annett, on 18th April 2019 at the age of 68. After a period of very poor health following an embolism in his leg in November, Steve made the decision to take his own life. As his wife of 50 years, Kate, put it so beautifully at his funeral at Greenacres in Essex, “I think we all have to accept that this, and all of life, is a mystery. We are left with unanswered questions, to which we will all create our own stories. I would ask all of you to have compassion for Steve’s decision”. Her profound words seemed to perfectly encapsulate the dharma to which Steve was so devoted. Kate and Steve’s four adult children all gave moving eulogies, sharing their experience of him as a loving and deeply engaged husband and father. His best friend shared how supportive a friend Steve was to him as well as some of Steve’s substantial professional accomplishments in print and broadcast journalism and hospital and charities management.
Steve started attending LIM events in December 2015 and volunteering on the events team in January 2017. He became a trustee in December 2017 when he took particular responsibility for LIM’s Communications and Marketing. Steve was passionate about fulfilling LIM’s vision and mission to share the dharma, especially to wider and more diverse audiences. He was talented, insightful, full of enthusiasm, prone to impatience, had a wickedly irreverent sense of humour and was, above all, a man with a huge heart. We will miss him dearly and attempt to pay tribute to him through continuing his commitment to LIM’s purpose and promise.
