In-person: Nirvana – Freedom from harming with Bernat Font
13 April 2024 10:00 am - 5:00 pm
Nirvana (or awakening) is an image of what a human life can be, of the actualisation of our potential to flourish as individuals and societies. In this day retreat, we will consider if the best way to articulate such an idea is the usual ‘freedom from suffering’ or rather ‘freedom from harming’.
Reading a few passages from the early Buddhist texts, we will explore nirvana as an ethical ideal and orientation, as well as a reality we can touch here and now.
The day will include talks, meditations, and collective reflection, so that each participant comes to a personal understanding of what nirvana can mean for them today, with its inspiring and challenging bits, with its benefits and potential pitfalls.
