Trust, faith and confidence with Stephen Fulder

5 July 2020 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

Trust and faith (saddha) are the first of the Five Spiritual Powers, and are similar. Trust is the primary means to dissolve and transform our anxieties, fears, confusions and resistance. In doing so, we also learn to trust others, and so reduce tension, aggression and conflict in our world. Instead of shutting our doors, we fling them open to let in any and all the guests that come knocking.

Trust is an attitude of welcoming experience and allowing things to be the way they are. Faith is conviction, the sense of deep inner alignment to what matters, to what is significant and kind to ourselves and the world. In a traditional image, it is like a magic jewel that can clear and settle the muddy water of uncertainty and helplessness. It allows us to keep stepping easily along the path to transformation and inner freedom, showing us that we are not lost and alone on the journey. It marks a path through the desert. We take ‘a leap of faith’, which implies that, like a trapeze artist, we can jump beyond the control of the known, the ordinary, the expected, and the habits of mind and heart. Faith also brings confidence. Confidence is a precious commodity on the ups and downs of the inner highway.

In this day we will explore how to develop a trusting heart and to encourage faith. We will do so by means of several guided sitting meditations, one lying meditation, two talks with Q & A, and one verbal inquiry in pairs.
