A sea of suffering, a call to action, an always available refuge with Gregory Kramer & Rosalie Dores
This is a weekend retreat, attendance is required at both days Sat 29th and Sun 30th September.
In an ever changing, increasingly uncertain and troubled world, the Buddha’s teachings offer a source of sustenance, refuge and inspiration. What is this refuge and how do we access it in the midst of our own confusion and the hard issues that press on us? What are these wisdom teachings that promise illumination, insight and liberation from suffering? How can I remember them? Am I alone, and is it even possible to be alone, in this process? Does taking refuge always mean retreating from the painful manifestations of cruelty and injustice? What is the actual body-mind experience of taking refuge, alone and with others?
Insight Dialogue is a liberating insight practice rooted in early Buddhist teachings. It bridges the experience of those teachings with the reality of our lives, shedding new light on the importance of social engagement as a step towards meeting the challenges of our times. Can we cultivate the wisdom these teachings promise and live that wisdom in a related, participatory way?
We will explore these questions within the framework of Insight Dialogue. Insight Dialogue is a relational meditation practice that is fully integrated with traditional silent meditation and the the Dhamma, the heart of early Buddhism. It invites us to extend our meditative awareness from solitary practice into relationship others. From here, there is a natural extension to ethical, mindful engagement with the wider community. The weekend will include periods of silent as well as relational meditation practice.
Attendance at the entire weekend, and complete detachment from electronic communication devices, are strongly encouraged. This weekend is open to people who do not have previous Insight Dialogue experience
