This Study Day will be on the Sutta Nipata, portions of which are possibly the oldest in the Pali Canon. In particular we will look at the section called the Atthakavagga (The section of Eights). Within the Sutta Nipata as a whole and the Atthakavagga in particular, we find an absence of some of the key doctrines that have come to be seen as central to the Buddha’s teaching. What we find ourselves presented with is a radical and dynamic form of the teaching before it has been systematised.
