We warmly welcome all to our events and aim to be as inclusive as possible. We are currently (2011) looking at how we can do this better and we invite your suggestions and feedback for achieving this.
Events organised centrally by London Insight Meditation.
All events in the main London Insight programme are held in venues accessible to wheelchair users and people with mobility difficulties. If you need information about exact access arrangements, please email . This email address is usually checked by Louise, our administrator, and in her absence by Anthea, who is one of our co-directors, or by another member of the organisers’ team. You can also contact us on 07954 472771.
Please also email or phone 07954 472771 if you need special arrangements in order to make the most of one of our events. We will do all we can to help and if necessary will take specialist advice in order to help you.
If you need to be accompanied by a personal assistant to an event please let us know in advance, as we need to know numbers attending each event. Your assistant will be able to attend free of charge.
If attending a study day, please let us know if you need a large print or braille version of the study materials, or a copy on coloured paper. If possible please let us know 7 days before the event. We can also email study materials to you ahead of the event.
On arriving at an event, please let us if you need any assistance; for instance if you need to sit particularly close to the teacher in order to hear or lip-read. If you have difficulty in hearing meditation instructions, or the bell at the end of a session, it’s perfectly OK to meditate with your eyes open.
If you have general enquiries about the process of meditation for people with different physical capabilities, unrelated to access or to any specific event, meditation teacher Paul Burrows has kindly agreed to help. You can reach him at dharmadialogue[at]gmail.com (email address slightly altered to avoid spam.)
As a small, non-commercial organisation, we are not currently able to employ BSL interpreters. We aim to rectify this in 2011 or 2012.
Sitting groups and study /discussion groups
Sitting groups and study/discussion groups affiliated to London Insight organise themselves independently of our central management team, and are responsible for making all their own arrangements. Therefore if there is a group you would like to attend and you need to ask about access or anything else, please contact that group directly. Please note that most groups meet in private houses, and so are not always wheelchair-accessible.
Contact details for groups can be found here: http://www.londoninsight.org/community/sitting-groups/
You are also welcome to contact Gary, our sitting groups co-ordinator, at .
